That's a tough one.
Both the Avon VenomX and Metzeler ME880 are very good tires, but it's hard to go away from a tire that seems to be a good compromise and has never really given any problems. They both would be the preferred choice in a colder or wetter climate, but around here it's brutally hot most of the time, so the advantage is minimal.
There are a lot of guys that like the K491 Dunlop, about the same characteristics as the D402 with longer wear, but have not tried them personally.
One reason I tend to stick with the OEM tire, is that if you were to need one in the middle of nowhere it would be much easier to find, and I don't like to mix tire brands.
