And pulling the primary takes how long? It's a two beer job. well, maybe 16 if the Clown is doing the drinking. But it's not a really big job.
No doubt. Due to my stupidity, I've gotten good at pulling the primary on mine.

About 3 years ago I got the "Better Lever" (BL). It definitely fixed the problem. It's not cheap but it's very high quality, made out of stainless steel.

To the poster who said the splines wear on the lever and not the shaft, not so. My shaft splines were worn and just buying a new Harley lever would not have worked very long. The BL design takes into account possible worn shaft splines and really clamps down on it. The BL guy stresses you need to check the tightness of both hex bolts once in a while for safety. (Yes, the BL has 2 bolts. The stock Harley one only has one.)

To the other guy, you are confusing the shift lever and the longer shift rod that connects to the foot shifter controls. Yes, my shift rod failed a few years ago and I went to the stealer and bought the nicer rod that should have been stock when my bike was new!
