Stopped by the local performance shop and while talking cams/lifters and such. They said changing lifter for lifter the s&s lifters required adjustable push rods. Why is that?

If they are the travel limited style, they are adjusted differently than a stock type lifter.

Maybe they meant changing lifters without pulling the rockers requires adjustables...which is true.
