I'd like to know what everyone's RPM is while driving 70MPH? Since the 883's don't have a factory tach I'm curious as to what the RPM's are at certain speeds....average anyway. I'd also like to know what they are with the stage I kit also.

It bothers me when the manual suggests certain RPM's for break-in when we don't have a tach!

Maybe I'm the only one who thinks this way, but every bike should have a tach as standard equipment!!

I have a tach on my 883/1200. In 5th gear, the rpm is very close to mph x 100/2. so at 70 mhp the rpm is 3500.

I agree with the need for the Tach. I paid approximately $200 for a tach to put on my 2003 1200C......which I don't take delivery until April!! Hated to pay that much, but I wanted a tach and also wanted it to match.

Wow BigBen! At 70mph my 02 883 sounds/feels like 4000 to 5000!! Not having a tach sucks, wish I could get rid of the speedo and swap it out for a tach!

You can! In fact the high $$$ Harley tack will fit right in there. What I did (as well as seen done) is mount a low $$$ after market chrome mini tach right next to the speedo. Looks OK and after 22,000 miles still works (the speedo quit), a well spent 45 bucks.

Kags, do you have any pics of your tach set-up? This sounds like something I need to do.

Around 3300 or so on a 1200S. If the 883s have a little more gear (I think they do) then 3500 sounds about right. And yes, I agree every Harley should have a tach.

Crawdaddy, You are correct. The 883 has a 27 tooth primary sproket, and the 1200 has a 29 tooth, so a 883 will run at a little higher rpm for the same speed.
