Road Glide Faring Q's

I have an 01 RG and my fairing has always fit like crap where the inner and outter come together! I really don't know why, I have seen a few others like this but also some that fit real nice. Every time the outter comes off, it seems worse fitting when it goes back on.
I bought a used 05 outter yesterday on ebay, I know there are some changes in the 05's, something about the angle, and I was wondering if anyone knows if the 04 and later use the same inner fairing as the 99-03? I tried to get the inner too but didn't win it.
Anyone have the part #'s for these both inner and outter, old and new? Gonna paint my inner once I get this fit issue straightened out, I love that look!

Also, do the new RG fairings take the same windshield as the old ones?
TIA

Your dealer can give you the part numbers. Look in parts book. Usually the parts guy will let you browse them on a slow afternoon. Might also want to check out the metal support frame that bolts to the bike frame. Seems to me it would be the easier way to change the angle.
I have an 05 RG, and mine are the same way.
The piece between the two is always working its way out.
All in all, thats' the only complaint I have with my scoot...other than the crappy speakers.

Billy, those speakers are easy to swap, I put rockford fosgates in mune and it rocks!
05 FLTR Fairings

Part #'s for an 05 Outer is 58733-98A, inner is 58734-98B windshield is 57958-04. The fairing mount bracket is part # 58530-04. These part numbers are from the 05 Touring Models Parts Catalog. Now if you can just find someone with an earlier model parts book you could compare numbers.

Thanks, tells me what I need to know, the inner is the same, shield and bracket different. Looks like the mount bracket is where the change comes in. I'll double check and cross reference when I can get to a dealer. Thanks alot, I don't live near a dealer and they really aren't that friendly so this info helps tons!
Thanks again.

I kind of figured that would be the practical way to change the angel. Find out how much the dealer wants and I'll sell you a set(there are two pieces invloved).
The inner and outer fairings are all the same on 98-06 R/G's. All that changed was the mounting hardware, and windshields.

It is a trick getting it back on correctly. There are two notches on the back of the plastic headlight buckets that have to line up with a metal bracket on the inner fairing. Best way I have found to do it is to lower the outer fairing down and in, while at the same time hooking the notches on the brackets. You will know you have it when the outer "hangs" in place by itself.

There are also tabs on the sides of both the inner and outer that can only go by each other one way. Look at it when it's off. One side is flat, and the other side of the tabs have bracing molded in. Flat goes to flat...

You will know when you have everything lined up right. All 6 screws will line right up, and the lower mounting holes will too. If you have to force anything into alignment, it aint right. First check the headlight area, then make sure the tabs are lined up right.

Hope this helps, and makes sense...

I have a set of RG fairing brackets from an 05. Dealer replaced a lot of unnecessary stuff paid by insurance company and I got most of the take off parts. Even the outer fairing was usuable but took up too much space to store it.
I looked at a Ultra frame and it has filler buttons where the Road Glide fairing mounsts go. I would suppose that Road Kings use the same frame. Road King to Road Glide?
In 2004 and later the RG fairing is tilted down 3 degrees and the windshield was changed- tilts back 4 degrees.
