I have a 2000 RoadKing I bought in May with 1500 miles on it. I now have just under 7000 mikes and need a new rear tire. My dealer has a Dunlop D402 Wide White Wall replacement tire in stock my cost $130.00 which is close to the best internet price i found. Mountung on the bike is 52.00 off the bike 20.00.

I was debating buying a new set of Dunlop Elite 3's best delivered price for the set $220.00

SHould I just buy the rear for now and wait till I need the front too. Or get the Elite 3's now. I email Dunlop no plans for a WWW Elite3. so Black Wall it would be.

Just seeing what you guys would do?

Thanks
Jim

I'd replace the rear with whatever you want and wait for the front to wear down before replacing it. But then I'm cheap like that. I just put my 2nd new rear tire (a Kenda Kruz, in case anyone cares) on without replacing the front and I think I'll easily get another 5k or so out of the front.

I replaced just the rear tire with an E3 on my '07 Ultra...no problem at all. I'll replace both with E3s when it comes time to change the rear again.

But wouldn't it look weird with a black side wall on the rear and a Wide White Wall on front if I only put a E-3 on the rear for now?

If you have the dough, replace both. If you're ordering online, save on shipping and buy 2 rears + 1 front. Some places will give you a better deal on the tires with this combo. Very happy w/my E3's.

EDIT: To save some money, take the single D402 for now and order the E3's next go-around. You'll be there in no time..

Mine didn't look weird.....because I insisted the dealer change the tires to blackwalls at no cost to me on my new Ultra before delivery.

On a bagger, most of the rear tire is hidden anyway. Besides, if you're riding down the road (that's what motorcycles are made to do), you can't see the sides of either tire.
