Not sure this is the right forum, but thught I'd start here. I have to be in Orlando in early October, so am taking the SO and renting a Road King from Orlando HD for 6 days. Plan to hit Miami and Ft Lauderdale, but generally unfamiliar with the Florida coast Any referencs to internet sites, riding books or other sources of bker places I wouldn't want to miss would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure you bring a good rain suit, it will cost you $10.90 toll from Orl to Fort Lauderdale on the turnpike, map out routes on A1A once you get into Palm Beach County, ride through Lighthouse Point, Pompano Beach, Los Olas on A1A (Broward County) , drag down South Beach (Miami, Dade Co)a few times, stop at a sidewalk cafe for a brew, then hit the road south again and don't stop (other than fuel) until you get to Key West and hang out there. It's illegal to snub Key West if you're on a scoot.
You are arriving in peak season. There will be gray hairs a-plenty. Give them p-l-e-n-t-y of room, because they won't see you. Have a safe, fun trip.

have you thought about seeing other areas of florida?? the area north & west of orlando has some of the best roads--curvy & hilly--in florida. the tampa area where i live has lots to do with ybor city & some really good bike nights in the area. you should also check out daytona, not like bike week or biketoberfest but some of the bars & shops are open year round--places like the boot hill saloon are actually calm enough to be able to get a beer most of the year. anyway, sorry to ramble but enjoy your visit!! let me know if i can help !!

I second Key West, from Miami to Key west there are I believe 43 bridges one of whichis seven miles long with some of the most beautiful turqois water I have ever seen. I think its about 140 miles from Miami to Key West. And key west is motorcycle friendly, I go every year after bike week for about six years now. If you are adventurous there are a few clothing optional places to visit, Atlantic shores right down the street from the southernmost point of the US(90miles to Cuba), The other place is the Garden of Eden on top of the bull/ whistle stop. There is also Hemingways house, beautiful sunsets, and if your up to it take one of the snorkel trips. Have fun whatever you decide.
