The stock lengths of the rear signal standoffs are a bit excessive and I wanted to remedy that without destroying the original lines/concept of the bike. I saw on another thread where the OP simply removed the standoffs...I choose not to do that but put shorter standoffs (off of a softail)

Here is a shot of the new/changed standoff on the left and the original on the right:

And here is the completed shot:

The part# for the softail standoff is 69933-08

The turn signal on the 48 (unlike the Softails which uses a simple/plain bolt) are held on by a special stud than must be shortened by an inch and then use a die cutter to cut new threads on the end of the stud...

Here are some other shots of the bike in its current state:

and one with the grandson :)

Real nice bike - a ton of work there.
Awsome ! I love the blacked out everything !

I agree that HD makes the Sportster turn signals stick out way
too far. I replaced them with HD Nightrod directionals. Theye are flat black
and are even closer to fender than the ones you put together - with less work.
I will have a few pics this week in my Dirtster post.

Real nice job on the 48 ! Nicest one I've seen yet .
