Hi folks,

1. How much torque for a transmission drain-screw? It's on a 80"evo, righthand side of tranny.
Friend said I can use "Loctite 744" to seal the screw?
Is this ok or should I use some PTFE-tape instead.

2. How much torque for the oilscreenplug (same bike)?

Participants can win sunshine and a free beer :woohoo:

1. My manual says 7lbs for the transmission drain plug. It does not say to use any special sealers or Locktite etc, and it's been 10 years since I touched it so I cannot remember what I did.

2. Replace the the pump screen with a bolt head unit! That damn screw slot always strips out every time. My manual says 90-120lbs for this one, but that seems bloody high. I think I just run mine in till it's good and tight using a torque wrench starting at 50 lbs or so.

Manual is for 84-87 FXRs

thx guys,
PM me your home adress and I'll send you over something :)

was thinking of replacing the screenplug with a "bolt" one,

Since the temp is going up again over here, I'm getting things ready to do my first maintenance EVER on my bike. Checking and double checking :)

grtz from frosty Belgium :)

Well, insp.clouseau, I'm jumping in here for the beer. We got some sunshine every now and then.

Just snug them up nice and tight, not overly tight, don't break nothing. Good to go!.

Send the beer over to Southern Oregon. We got mountains, we got the ocean, and we got the high desert, and if I wanted to, I can see them all in a day. :woohoo: :woohoo:  Have a beer on me..that would be a Blue Moon on tap. (Belgium White wheat ale). Very good beer.

Personally I like the liquid teflon, which I think the LT744 is, but you could also get a small tube from a local autoparts store. That is what we used when I was in the bike shop. Works great for the primary drain too.

The teflon will get gummy when it dries and even though you do not have to "break" it free it will keep things from vibrating out. I have actually used it for low torque fasteners that I did not want to put loctite on.
