Question on motorcycle course:

1205 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  jcolman
I stay in D.C. because I work and go to school here. I work fulltime on overnight shift and go school fulltime during daytime. My working schedule is Midnight Monday-Friday so technically my "Friday" is on Saturday morning at 8am.

I noticed that most motorcycle course is whole weekend with 5pm-10pm on Friday, 8am-5pm on Saturday and same on Sunday.

I would like to save my vacation time(1 day) for bike rally so I don't want to use up my vacation to drive down to NC and take the course. Can I take Motorcycle course here in MD or VA and bring the certification to NC DMV to receive motorcycle license in NC?

If anybody know, that would be great. If not, I guess I will have to make some phone call and find out, if I can find time. :(

I no one answers directly, give the NC DMV a call and ask. Many states recognize the courses as sufficient.

good luck

kenjr,

Both MD (http://www.mva.state.md.us/moto/safetyprog.htm) and VA (http://www.learn2ride.com/) offer rider training courses, which upon completion release you from the riding portion of the motorcycle licensing test. These courses are also 3 day events, Friday night + all day Sat and Sun.

I live in Northern VA, about a month ago, I called around trying to find the next available slot, the earliest I could get in was in September!

I found a slot at a community college 150 miles away in May. Registration was $70, it'll probably cost twice that for a decent motel for two nights.

Thank you very much for providing the information.

kenjr,

you're welcome:)

Kenjr,
I order to receive a NC motorcycle license you'll still need to take the written test. If you already have a MC license from another state, I don't think you need to take the test, but I'm not sure. The NC MC driving test is a 5 minute ride around some cones in the parking lot. They only offer the MC tests on Tues, Wed. and Thurs. at 8:30 am and 2:30 pm.

Cheers

NC!

Finally, someone else from NC... howdy neighbor. :)
Hey Sporty kid!

Not too many of us from NC huh? You'd never know it by the number of bikes that cruise past my neighborhood every Saturday on their way to Scooters grill in N. Raleigh. Seems like every Hog in town ends up there.

You ever ride up and down Litchford? Maybe we outta get together sometime and go riding.

Cheers
