Hi fellas,
Seems you are all well informed here. My question is that I am going to a 180 rear tire on my FXR and have my eyes on a 5.25" disc rim. Would this rim size be too wide for the 180 tire?
Supplier states the rim will be suitable for a 200 tire but that will give me some clearance problems. Thanks for any input, Steve.

a 180 what tire? 180/55? 180/60? 180/70? a 180/55 needs a 5.5", a 200/50 or 55 should be on a 6"... the new fat bob has a 180/70 on a 5" so a 5.25 is right in the middle...

I run a 5.5" wide rim on my 180 tire. The aspect ratio has no bearing on width. However, if you check the width of several 180 tire models, not all measure 180mm.

that should be the perfect width for a 180/70...
the aspect ratio DOES have a bearing on rim width, a taller sidewall gives more leeway on running a narrower rim... thats how u can fit a 160/80 on a stock 3" rim, while a 160/70 uses a 4.5", and a 160/60 should have a 5"
