Got a call from my insurance rep today. They offerd .50 on the dollar"1/2" of what my Ducati was insured for! They got two qoutes from some Idiot "wannabe" appraiser in california and split the difference.Contacted my Attorney and we are starting with a letter.I have the right"at my cost" to pay for an independent appraisal .They can "Not Accept" then it goes to a nuetral third party"umpire" to come up with a figure that my bike was worth. They don't care about the 34k+ in reciepts I gave them! Its the Fair market value! What a bunch of BS!They had no Problem doubling my premium but sure do paying me off!Sorry about my spelling "I'M pissed, and on a Pain Pill!"Guess nothing is easy when it come to "The Insurance Game"!

'sorry, Kaz.

I've heard a lot of insurance companies will only pay "fair market value". To get more, you have to demonstrate that the bike is worth more and someone would actually pay more for it. When I had a bike "totaled" in the early '90's I got some first hand experience with this. I was able to find some ads in CycleTrader to demonstrate that my bike was worth more than the Kelly Blue Book price.

Overall, and you will be amazed by this, Progressive doesn't have a bad reputation.

Man, that sucks, Kaz. Sometimes I've wondered how much I would lose to the insurance company if that happened to me. I've thought about asking if it's better (or possible?) to get a replacement cost policy on a motorcycle, especially if it has lots of extras, instead of an actual cash value policy based on market value. It would seem like one would always lose with a market value assessment.

Another approach is to ask them to find a bike of equal quality and mileage that they will buy to replace yours. That puts the ball squarely in their court to come up with a low mileage bike with all of your goodies.

you ought ot come to Daytona. you just might see your bike there!! If not you can have some fun anyway. We may leave a few bar tabs aroudn with your name on them.

Sorry to hear about your Ducati/Progressive woes. I had a sickening accident in my garage New Years Eve... a Ducati fell over, hitting a bike, hitting a bike, hitting a bike, hitting a bike... Like dominos. Sickening. Had a $500 deductible on each bike. Most damage was cosmetic... dinged tanks, fenders, turn signals, an exhaust here and there. Figured with the deductible I wouldn't get much.

Called Progressive. They came out, applied the $500 deductible on only one bike, and gave me a check for the full replacement value of all parts plus estimated service charges. They examined every bike up close with a flash light and saw things I never noticed. ST4s gas tank ($1700). I pulled the dent out. The tiniest of nicks.. full replacement. I received from Progressive far more $$$ than I will spend. Sounds like Progressive responsiveness could be a local thing.

The V-Rod was spared from the garage calamity, but you know, maybe that wouldn't have been too bad. At least H-D would have replacement parts ready to go. Ducati hasn't shipped any parts or accessories to dealers since the first of the year!!! How's that for crappy customer service.

After estimating & appraising vechicles for the last 15 years all I can tell you is if I had to carry Progressive Insurance I would not drive-all they want is your money-they will give you salvage price in return should you have to make a claim.

Kaz, do you have an Email address or phone number for your agent/claims ?? I'm sure we could let them know how we all feel and that we will not be doing business with them. (might want to wait until your finished negotiating, your call )

Kaz,
You're worrying me - I have Progreesive insurance. I goota tell you I hate insurance companies with a passion (all of them). When you want to make a claim (get money) they all look at you like you're stupid. Does anyone know of an honest, inexpensive insurance company?

yer

Yeah they are linked. I had Progressive and they had free towing and other crap for people with Harley's. I switched because they wanted alot of $$$ to insure my wife motorcycle because she was in a wreck 2 years ago. So I went with this other company and saved some $$$$$.

If you have Progressive call them and ask if they cover you if u test drive a motorcycle. I was told by my new insurance guy they dont cover it. He new because he can go through Progressive also at his company.

First, honest, inexpensive insurance company is an oxymoron.

I'm in process of trying to get insurance on bike because company I had no longer covers motorcycles. So I contact ANPAC over a month ago. Get a quote of $370. Okay, let's do it then. We start all paperwork on Feb. 10, guy gets check for 1st payment last week and calls me next day to inform me the premium is going up to $540. WTF!!! How is this possible?

Okay, here's what has been explained to me(so far):
1. When given original quote(again, over a month ago), they just gave me basic estimated quote prior to checking driving record. Oh, yeah, my driving record is CLEAN. Once they got my SS#, they started checking details.

2. They got information from Choice Point and a report called a CLUE report causes me to be placed in higher bracket. Just what is this damn CLUE report? Oh, it is a report that all insurance companies acquire from Choice Point about your insurance ratability.

3. On this report, it shows that my auto insurance had to pay out a large claim a couple of years ago when I was in accident. Yes, I was driving my truck, was sideswiped by uninsured, drunk driver and my uninsured motorist's paid the truck off and then sued the driver. There are also 2 other claims where I was rearended and in both of these, my insurance company did not have to pay anything because other drivers were at fault.

4. SO, since I've been involved in 3 accidents in past 3 - 4 years(again, none were my fault and insurance only had to pay out once), Iam placed in a category for people who have accidents on reoccuring basis.

I have ranted and raved at this guy for past 4 days as to why I have been paying premiums on my auto insurance, have never been charged in any traffic accidents which were caused by other people, I have been placed in this category. I get the old standard, "That's the way things are done in insurance industry."

So now I am in battle with my auto insurance to see what information they have put on the CLUE report so I can dispute it. Oh, yeah, I have to request a copy of the CLUE report and once I have it, I have 30 days to dispute the issues on the report. And, no one will email or fax me a copy of this report. They have to mail it. So I request it, they drag feet for 10 days and by time I get it, I have 10 - 15 max to dispute the issues.

This sucks and the new insurance guy is calling going "What's the deal on your insurance? When should I come over to pick up a new check for the motorcycle insurance?" I've pretty much told him I'm in process of checking with others. I don't care if it costs me same amount or a little more. Since they've jacked me around, ANPAC has lost my business.

progressive - alternatives

My Wide glyde was stolen in canada, and Progessive came through for me (eventually). But I don't think anybody will give you replacement value unless you pay big time extra. They give you the value of the bike you lost.
As a cheper alternative - my friend dropped his Ultra, and he had insurance backed by GMAC. And they did awesome. Plus they cost almost half as Progressive. So that's who I'm using.
