what type of prep work needs to be done to powder coat rims. Which is easier chrome or polished aluminum for powder coating?

Check with the dude that will do the powdercoating. I don't do anything but clean the parts before sending. I send everything from engine cases to wheels and never asked about one being easier than the other, just assumed they are the same. Translucent powder over chrome is like colored chrome (pretty cool).

as far as prep work for either one is the same, bare, clean, no paint no oils. powdercaoting over the chrome, if you are NOT wanting a candy/translucent color they will need to be scuffed lightly with a scotch brite pad. most of the differance in the prep work between steel and aluminum should be done by the coater that is doing the work. at our shop we tell the customerthat we preffer that the items be free of grease and dirt and bare metal if possible, that means that we dont have to strip the part that save the customer alot of money.
