Does not affect braking, I didn't notice anyway. Using your brakes will scuff up the polished area that the pads come in contact with. Is it worth it can only be answered by you.

Have to be carefull, children catch on quickly!!(cute picture)

This was the bike I had polished rotors on, It started out as a 1988 FXR that I owned since new and decided to freshen up at 50,000 miles. The paint and molding was done by Dave Perewitz. The frame engine(exceptfor S&S internals)wheels etc were all reworked HD. Brakes and rotors were PM. Sorry I did not have a picture of the other side to better show the rotors..

I have polished over 20 rotors and it is quite easy. I remove the rotors and put them on a clamping work bench (sears) and start by sanding them with 220 grit orbital sander. After all factory gring lines are completely gone, I use a 6" polishing wheel on a 1/2" drill and start with BLUE compound and work my way to red. The finish is mirror and perfect. Nice, easy weeknight project. Takes me about 1.5 hrs for each rotor, both sides for laced or spoked wheels, 1 hr for one sided for solid wheels.

I just instaslled polished Russell rotors on my Dyna and I did notice one thing. The front brakes are a little noisy. Not really a squeak, but more like a groan (for lack of a better term). It doesn't do it all the time though. Kinda wierd....and annoying. They do make quite a difference as far as looks go though, more than I thought they would.
