Checked the plugs on an 03 carbed Heritage. The front looks right but the rear is black/sooty. Can't figure out why. Any thoughts?

Generally speaking, the rear cylinder runs richer because of the induction system design and motor orientation.......... and the rear cylinder runs hotter than the front due to its location.

Not a carb guy but I would think you could possibly balance it a little better with carb setup and you could try a different heat range plug too.

BTW, that is one advantage of efi systems, you can individually trim the afr in each cylinder.
