For Sale - 1951 EL Panhead engine VIN 51 EL 19XX - matching belly no 1 - 51 - 1662 . It was professionally rebuilt in 1997 or 98 for a restoration that never got completed and has 0 miles on that build, has not been installed in a bike. It has been stored with oil in the cases, enough so the bearings were wet, the cylinders were oiled regularly and the motor turned over periodically. I have recent pics of the cyl bores – they are as clean as the day they were done. The engine was rebuilt with good, stock H-D 61” flywheels, rods, & Jim’s shafts and trued to less than .001. The cyls are bored to .100 – Keep in mind that 61” cyls start out 1/8” (.125) smaller diameter then 74 “ cyl on the same casting dia. There is still lots of meat left. I forget what cam is in there – It is either stock H-D or a mild Andrews, I can’t remember. The heads where done by Dave Mackie with nitrated exhaust valves. It does require some effort on your part to finish. There are no rocker arms or pushrods. The heads are not torqued, so you can inspect the cyl bore and fit the intake.
This is a well built, original Panhead motor with good original numbers perfect for a rider, a custom, or a quality restoration.
