I got my 2009 Electra Glide painted the brightest hottest red.



It's Dodge Viper Red.



There's a lot of extras I added when I got the paint job done.

I added Hogworkz Lowers.



I also added the Concho Fender skirt. Originally the fender had a decal that said "Classic" but that's just the trim package. The Electra Glide Classic doesn't have lowers nor does it have lights on the Tour Pak but I added lowers and years ago I added lights to the Tour Pak. I no longer consider my Electra Glide a Classic. I removed the "Classic" labels and bought chrome labels for the fenders that say "Electra Glide".

The painter also added "Electra Glide" to the top of the Tour Pak.



I like the old school classic look. I bought these tank badges. Harley Davidson only used these in 1961 and 1962 but they still sell them separately.



All in all I spend $5940 on this makeover.

This is my submission for the Ride of the Month contest. Actually there hasn't been a Ride of the Month contest for a while. I'm hoping it gets revived.

Painting the inner fairing is always a big improvement. I kept the stock radio but the speakers were cracking at higher volumes. The left speaker was worse, the membrane was cracked. I replaced the speakers with Hogtunes Speakers. I then added Hogtunes metal Speaker grills over the speakers. They look great but you can't really tell in this picture.

I bought Drag Specialities chrome trim for the gauges but the small ones didn't fit so returned them. I went to the Harley dealer and spent more on the ones they had. The trim from HDMC are very nice chrome. The 2 over the speedometer and tach don't match. Those 2 are metal but not the mirror like chrome of the Harley rings.

I also bought a chrome brake reservoir cap. The OEM cap was loosing paint around the edges.

The original rocker switches were in terrible shape. The sun was fading and cracking the plastic on those switches. Once again the Harley shop was really asking high prices for these rocker switches that did not hold up. Once again I tried to save money and went with Drag Specialities. They still cost $114 for the 3 switches. Time will tell if I regret my decision.

To the left of the rocker switches, where a 4th rocker switch would be is 2 push buttons. These are for my garage door openers. I added these when I first bought my Harley. The garage door opener is hidden in my fairing and I ran wires to the 1 buttons. But I got $2 puch buttons from Radio Shack. They were so cheap the cap quickly came off the buttons. I replaced them and the caps came off again. This winter I spent more time finding replacements. They have to be very small. That's a 1/4 inch hole they have to fit through. I when to an on line aviation store and bought 2 push button switches for $35.30.

Exhaust

I added quite a few extras and upgrades, not all of which were done at the same time. Some components of this makeover were done in the fall. Everything was planned out last summer. One of the first upgrades was the exhaust. I love the retro look. That's why I decided to get fishtail exhaust. After researching I decided on Freedom Exhaust SharkTail slip-ons. They have two versions. I went with the more expensive "NeverBlue". The chrome coating is no different from their regular slip-ons. The difference is the NeverBlue has an outer chrome piece and an internal piece. There is air in between to insulate. This is why the outer chrome doesn't turn blue from the heat. I really liked this design. I say "liked" as in past tense. The design to prevent blueing is very thought out. But I discovered a problem with the mounting bracket being too weak. The OEM part to support the mufflers is stronger steel with the edges curved to create ridges on the edges. The Freedom Exhaust part is not so strong. A month after installing my slip-ons the bracket on the right side broke.

I called Freedom Exhaust twice and left my phone number but never heard back from them. What are they going to do anyway? Send me another bracket? I welded my bracket back together. Then I welded a half inch tube to the bottom of each bracket (right and left). This is now much stronger than what Freedom Exhaust ships out. I mainly wanted to talk to they guys at Freedom Exhaust so they knew about this weak link in their design. I hope they already have redesigned it.

Otherwise I really like the looks and sound of these slip-ons. To tell you the truth, the main reason I did not replace my stereo is because I love listening to my exhaust so much I never listen to my stereo anymore.

He likes it and that is all that matters. Red is a fast color. Fire engines are red. Hummingbirds like red. My 2 bikes and truck are red. I used to have red hair.lol.

Headlight

What about my headlight?
Actually I like the looks of the old OEM incandescent headlight. The problem is it's not very bright by today's standard. A few years ago I replaced the bulb with an LED bulb. Then it leaked in the rear. Rain would run down the back of the bulb and get inside the headlight.
Here I am on the way to Alaska.


I replaced my headlight with an Eagle Lights Infinity Beam headlight for $315


here's the before picture.


The new headlight stuck out more so I bought extended headlight trim from the Harley shop for $47.42

At one time the strap for the lid of my Tour Pak broke. The lid swung open, bending the hing and cracking the lid.


For this paint job I replaced the lid and bought some premium hinges. They're much better than the factory hinges.

love the matching inner faring. i had that on my last bike and my present 2017 classic. like you i had upgraded my 2005 Electraglide Standard to be almost equal to a Classic (no CB). love the new paint job! on the hinges i noticed that on my 2005 and upgraded to the much beefier ones from Harley. liked the look much better too. all in all a brand new bike for less than $5000 not a bad deal.

I went with Mutazu Premium Hinges on eBay for $39. They seem to be the same as the Harley Hinges #79211-08A. I am very happy with them. Strong and they look good.

The Harley OEM hinges look like crap even before they were damaged.

I also added these footpegs. I have about 4 footpegs. I like these and the mounts are new. They are at the right location and they look good too.
