Overheating & Pinging

Ok , I just got back on the rd today after finishing the 1200 kit on my 89 sporty . I let it heat cycle a few times on the lift with a fan but when I got it out on the road I noticed it pings when in 1st taking off and being easy , if I romp down it it stops and when i stop I notice a ton of heat coming off the engine which I am concerned about since it never had this issue before . I have some cheap light weight oil in it now for break in and I will put my amsoil 20-50 M/C oil back in it tomar . The compression is 10:1 , my pipes are open and wrapped and i am running 92 octane and have a gentle timing cure set along with a 3500 rev limit and a high idle to keep the oil moving along nice but you can still cook bacon off the heads when I stop .

Will the oil help this out any ?
Maybe some good octane boost ?
oil cooler for sure
Plan to install oil temp and pressure gauge
I do realize there will be more heat with bigger slugs and thinner walls but just how much should I expect or do I have another issue I should be considering ?
All my tolerances and clearances checked out perfect so I pretty confident its not a too tight issue . the oil thats in there now is 5-30 automotive ........ I know I know ..... I know , i only put it in to get through the initial start up but it did put some zinc additive in it , Im just not a fan of flushing out 9 dollar a qt oil after 30 minutes of run time hence why I used what I did , I know the auto oil has piss poor shear but would it really cause a overheat ?

I also bought a powder coating rig and may have went a bit too crazy with , what cha think ?

I ran 93 in my 10.5:1 1250. Thunderstorm heads, and 15* pistons. Buell X1 cams( it was a X1 go figure)....

Only pinged a couple times in traffic, 100+ temps... it was hot... daily rider.

Go a couple heat ranges cooler on the plugs. Richen it up a bit down low.

Don't know if the better quench area helped prevent pinging.... but....

Good luck.

man, what cams ya got? which ignition controller ya got? you said a mouthfull about 1200 kit, and powdercoating, but nuttin about the motor. i always built a real 1200 and not used kit for the same reason you are having problems.

also remember..(pipes are open) dont cut it and you wont be able to tune.........but it will look purty on the trailer.

Clay I see what your saying about the pipes and I understand the reason behind it BUT I have put baffles in them and tried several other exhaust set ups and none would run as good as these do .
I am running the twin tec 1005 module , stock cams so far as i know , the org 883 heads ported non shaved .
Carb trick kit and jets will be here tuesday but I have quite a bit of orifice bits so I upped the low jet today , no difference in the ping .
I did discover that I somehow managed to knock off my Voes sensor hose so that was a double hitter , fixed that and I put in amsoil 20-50 synthetic and a big nice oil cooler ...... still pinging but I can tell its not AS hot and oil is warm but not hot either .
It was about 65 out today and I rode the snot out of it for about 10 miles and immediately grabbed the dip stick and stuck my finger in the oil and it was about as warm as bath water . Temp gauge will be here soon too .

I am reading up on some 100LL aviation fuel now but I may have to install some thicker head gaskets and I need to research the timing curves for that module and or order the interface cable .
Like I said , it only does it at very low speed and rpm which I dont do alot of either but it still bugs me .
