I have noticed I don't get and accurate reading on my engine oil dipstick since lowering the rear end on my '05 fxst. Is there a preferred way to get an accurate reading?

Has anyone else had this problem, or do I need to wait for the alcohol to wear off before I check it again?

Assuming the dip stick is at the same level, once you have lowered the bike, of course the oil level will show lower, its now farther below the old level.

If your reading while oil is hot, try rolling the back wheel on a 2x4 to raise it about 1.5 inches. If the oil reading was done when oil temp was cold, a 1/4 - 1/2 qt. low is about right.

Thanks SFTL-1, actually the 2x4 is one idea that came to mind so I will try it just as soon as it warms up enough to thaw the oil out....I'm getting sick of winter...... :thanks:
