do both screws hold down the filter ? if so, why (2)? seems a bit overkill, IMHO, but most likely it's just (1) (or neither are) designated for that purpose. if just (1), or neither, what are their function(s) if indeed they are not there to set the filter?

I've made the attempt to loosen both, but they will not budge. got some wd40 settin on'm now, but hate not knowing what it is I'm removing just because it needs to be removed.

Even worse, when you don't even know if it even needs to be removed in the first place!

Knowing the function for each fastener is key.

Thanks to all in advance!

Those aren't screws. They're plugs for an alternate oil inlet/outlet.

ok, thank you! that was my other guess!

...so, for sake of clarity, neither need to be addressed whatsoever during standard oil change and (standard location) filter swap, correct...?
