Are you refering to a chrome cover or a vinyl cover to place over the fins for cold weather riding?

You know, until you asked, I was thinking of the cold air cover. I don't do chrome, but now I also see that the OP is in Socal.

It depends. The cooler on my '98 does not have an internal thermostat. I have two of them in the garage. Four additional possible leaks I thought. HD does make a cover for their coolers.

Do you really need a cover? Wouldn't that impede the cooling process???? Air is meant to go over fins to cool the oil!!! If you place a cover over it you impede air flow over the fins??????

A thermostat or cover must be used when the ambient temps are below 60 degrees. Otherwise the oil never reaches proper operating temp.
