What is the measuring beam ratio?
Is the pointing laser visible?

Radio Shack has one that is similar for 49 bucks but the beam ratio is way too small to be of any real use.

"The MiniTemp is intended for close range targets,
measuring a minimum target area of 1 inch in
diameter out to a distance of approximately 8
inches, and has a 6 inch target measurement
area at 4 feet."

Hippo -- it says it can measure an area 1", at a distance of 8", and measure an area of 2" at 16" distance...

Can't locate the spec you mention...

Thanks, that's better. It amounts to an 8 to 1 ratio as opposed to the 3 to 1 on the RS. If they said will instead of can.

...we use commercial grade units at work, and they are very impressive. We scan reactors, and they work from a substantial distance...they are supposed to be very accurate (the commercial line -- like down to within 1/10 of a degree, or something). And they record hi/lo, etc.

Hippo - if I scan a TC88 head when hot, should it reflect close to what the rear head temp sensor sees?
