There's a noise bugging the crap out of me, but nobody else can hear it.

2002 FXSTD with 7500 miles.

After the bike is thoroughly warm and ridden a while, I can hear a whine in the left rear when slowing down to stop. It throbs like a whiney bicycle brake on a warped wheel. It is barely noticeable and only by me. It happens with clutch in or out and rear brake on or off. I can't tell if it is coming from the tranny/chain/belt/wheel or what. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

check the rear axle alignment - swing arm to axle both sides, check belt tension, and I'd look at the tread for cupping.

Noise only an owner can hear..i have it too

I have an 05' Softail Standard with 8500 miles. I just picked up the same whine myself. I keep thinking that it is my brake rotor singing, but I can not pin point the source. It travels through the frame. My concern is that it is something that is detrimental to the engine/ primary chain. Has anyone else experienced this?

I think I had this too...

On my 2006 Road King Classic...

I finally put it up on a jack, and noticed that the final drive belt was REALLY REALLY friggin tight!

I loosened the axle and adjusted the belt tensioner cams, and that pretty much solved the problem!

I was getting a noise/whine and a bit of an associated vibration that was felt in the handlebars mostly when heading in and out of "at speed" turns.

Hope this helps!

The belt on my '02 Dyna also became loud when I tightened it to spec using the tension tool (especially riding 2-up on a hot day). The noise went away when I backed off the adjusters a little.
