This is my first ever Forum excursion. I have been riding since 1971. My first bike was a Yamaha 250. I could never keep the plugs from fouling out. Siezed the motor. Next bike was a Honda 350 CB. Rode that bike all over. Longest one way trip was 1275 miles. Who says you can't fall asleep on a bike? That particular bike convinced me bigger is definitely better. Moved on up to a Yamaha 650 Twin Special. Fun bike but couldn't keep the electric start working. Had to get rid of it because the oil flying off the chain onto the wife's white jacket was not a good thing. Moved up to a Yamaha 750 Maxim. Fast, Black and Fun. Still too small. Moved up to a Honda Aspencade. Put 50,000 on that bike but the repairs became quite expensive. Sold it for a nickel (so to speak) and didn't ride for 4 years. Moved back to Illinois and bought a 2000 Black Sportster Custom. Fun bike. 364 days ago, my wife bought me (for Christmas) a 2002 Heritage Classic. What a nice ride! In two days I had a trip and 500 miles on the odometer. Caught in the rain so it was baptised rather quickly. I now have 7000 miles on it, thanks to the ride to Sturgis in August. A word of caution...do not put a tool bag on the light bar. One solid bump and you have a fender with a rather healthy ding in it. Also, do not install a Milwaukee Twin Oil Cooler on your down tubes. Again, any bump in the rode and the forks travel into the tubes. Now, my fender is really trashed. I will have to remove the coolers, find someone who can repair and paint the fender and install an OEM cooler system. Trying to save a buck or two is not worth it. Also, the big Twin fell on the Sporty and the light bar banged up the Sporty's fender. This has not been my year with fenders. Other than that, I love my bikes. Unfortunately the Sporty has to go. Spousal unit says one bike only. Now to find a buyer for the Sporty. I will miss it.

Hi Ray... welcome to the Forum... alot of really great folks here... always very help- full.... and alot of fun too..! My 03 heritage Classic just arrived at the Dealer... I saw it last night! as soon as the rain stops.. I'll bring it home... can't wait... any way enjoy the forum ....

Wow, I always wondered who bought all those fenders on eBay only kidding. Well it's a good thing you didn't fix it each time that would really have gotten to you, now you do it all at once and you should be good to go.
I don't think you'll have any problems selling the Sporty you sure the little lady doesn't want to ride it? Sporty are real nice bikes.

You all are way too kind. Yes, I would love to keep the Sporty...just for the fun, blast from the light thrill itj provides. However, I must be realistic..yeah sure, like who buys that load? The garage is small, the truck stays in the drive, and two bikes just grates a bit on my lovely wife's patience. I've tried to reason that when one bike is in the shop, the other bike is available and either bike gets considerably more mpg than the truck or her car. All to futile. Being retired and still working 40+ hrs. per week requires to Sporty to go, invest that money and hopefully have enough left over for a ride or two, or some new leather, or something shiny or a go fast item, or.....does it ever stop? Ray, I was about to suggest getting rid of the wife and keeping the Sportster.
However, I realized I've had too much to drink and need to keep my big mouth shut. Besides, Lisa is looking over my shoulder had has hit me twice after the first sentence. Ouch.

PJ...you made me crack a smile. Yes, my wife is a good woman. However, she is now in bed, called down twice, always suspcious of this darned computer and what I'm doing on it, and it is 11:00 p.m. here. The weather sucks. Cold, drizzling and not conducive to a bike ride. We have a chapter meeting Sunday and I was hoping to ride. The weather guesser said chance of snow. Go figure. I may just go out in the garage, fire them both up and piss off the neighbors. But, my skin will be tingling. Have a good evening, don't run out of brown pop, and your Lisa must be a good one, especially keeping tabs on you. Have a fine weekend. I'm outta here and horizontal. The Kingfish.
WOW, you must be a psychic...Carol always thinks I am flirting and carrying on when I am on the computer. I am in the basement and she is upstairs. I tell her this old dawg stays under the home porch. Safer there and much more friendly. Went to the Chapter meeting this a.m. Annual awards and recognition plus introduction of the new board. Our chapter keeps growing and doing worthwhile charity events. We are now over 350 enthusiasts with 100 who actively participate in meetings and such. I hope I am not boring you with details. It's just that when I left this morning, THERE WAS 2 INCHES OF SNOW IN MY DRIVE. Now that's depressing. The Classics just waits patiently. Have a good week.
