Hey guys/gals I'm new to the forum and thought I would post a thread to say hiya.

I just bought my first HD this year. I've been riding off-road for just about all my life. After a back injury (broken L-5 and cracked S-1) I had to put up the wheels for a couple of years.

Well the OL grew up in an HD family and always wanted me to get a road bike. Also, my aunt was president of Throttle Twisters based in Wisconsin before she passed away last year. IN our last conversation we talked about me getting a rig and she just lit up - I was then committed.

To be honest, I was looking at the Softail Deluxe (what a nice looking ride), but I was intimidated with the size/weight. I ended up picking up a black FXDLI. I haven't had a day of trouble throughout the season and the OL is now looking at riding - she may take over the FX and I might get my FLSTNI after all).

The bug hit the rest of my family at the same time. My nephew also has a SuperGlide, my bro-in-law has a mod'ed 1200 Custom, and even my dad is eyeing either my bike or a Street Bob for himself.

We've had a complete blast this year and the people I have met have been great. I've had my share of close calls and some run-ins with riders that have taken the rebel biker role a little too seriously.

It was pretty easy to give up off-roading, but the bike bug has bitten me hard. I have been reviewing some posts here concerning fear of cagers and the risk associated with riding. If you have to explain it to yourself that riding is a good thing, then perhaps riding is not for you. There are different degrees of riding "obsession", but it is either in you or it's not.

I look forward to talking with you guys/gals. I really like this site and the commentary here is great.

Ride safe brothers and sisters!

Son,

The family went riding over to Toronto during the 4th/July (and July 1) weekend. We had a great time (everyone went to the Paramount Park). Pent most of my time checking out the roads, etc.

There was a 2-hour wait at the bridge. We spent 30 minutes on top of the bridge (with the engines off) just getting some sun. Luckily border patrol got smart and got the bikes out of the way - we were escorted to the front of the line..... membership has its privlidges!

Hi and welcome to the best floging bike forum this side of alphasenturi.

You picked a winner of a place to land because these folks really know their scoots. There might even be a laugh or two from time to time.

Don't give up the off roading unless you absolutely have to. Some times a good hill climb or big burm run can satisfy the get crazy bug so you don't try stuff on the road that you shouldn't.

The O.L will love the FX, she has it in her blood.

Happy to meet you. Post up and enjoy.

Popeye, she certainly has it in her blood that's for sure.

I agree about off-roading. I sold my Raptor and bike, but I kept the OL's Sportsman 500 HO for just that reason. Although getting that beast in the air is tough, there's not a whole lot that the thing can't get through. I've got a 48" blade and Warn Winch on her as well.
