Hi Everyone,

New here from Oz. (Melb) but stuck in Sydney. Purchased a FXRSC with 19,000klms. Hadn't been ridden for 10 years only idled every month or so.

Bike rides for approx 1 to 5kms and stalls.
Saw a post with very similar symptoms, couldn't PM member directly so replied to a very old post all without introducing myself. Apologies, just a bit desperate..as I'm 4 days overdue to get home...

Aw crap, sorry 'bout expressing my frustration in your original post.
Try to add all pertinent info like you kinda did in your other post, like new ignition etc.
Possibly a relay heating up?
When you say it stalls, do you mean quits like a kill switch or stumbles, coughs, runs and dies?
good luck.
It stops like it runs out of fuel, but it isn't. It also cranks right away even while it's still rolling to a stop. Once you it stops for the first time it will stop more often after i.e. 200m then 100m then it's a struggle to get it back.

Tried riding in reserve
New fuel hose
Replaced petcock
Fuel tank liner etc checked
Carb cleaned, flow checked
Fuel flow checked petcock and carb side
Tried riding bike without fuel cap
Regulator cool to touch, doesn't seem to overheat.
Tried another second hand dual fire coil
Tried another second hand ignition module,
Tested heating up the cone cam sensor
Break switched look ok and the bike will crank right away when it stalls so we assume it's not the issue. It just won't start right away may have to get 15 to 30 seconds.
Don't think it's kill switch short because it surely would have randomly done it before the initial 1 to 5ks where it runs perfectly.
Checked fuse box all wires look clean and good.
Today replaced with dynatek 2000i. So new single fire coil, associated wiring and module. If anything this made the issue come more prevalent.

Currently with a very highly rated mechanic but even he's like this is very unusual.

Might try spraying brake cleaner on the ignition module next time it dies. If it's hot, the spray will cool it off.
How is the float in the carb? May be incorrect height setting or sticking needle valve? When it stalls is there any way to spray fuel or cleaner into the throat to at least verify it is or isn't fuel related? I had an ignition go out and only found it by spraying with cleaner to keep it cold like Alan S suggested.

Plug cables?

Well we replaced the ignition so it's not that. Hard to do as it only happens when riding not at idle. We rode it with the air cleaner off and as soon as it stalls I could still see fuel being sprayed in if I turned the throttle.

You get it running properly?
Yes eneed up being a combination of ignition and float. Ignition get rid of the heat related stalls . Then left over 3k rpm stall due to float level was slightly off. He put a spacer under needle too. Plugs look good but I'm only getting around 170 with headwind to 200Kms per 14 litres that's only 35mpg ish...
