Out ridin' today and all of the sudden noticed a metallic rattle
noise when decelerating.. It will do it in any gear so long as I rev
up to high RPM's (like 3500) and then let off the throttle
suddenly. As the motor winds down, it produces a loud
metallic rattling noise from the right hand side of the bike. It
sounds like its coming from either the tranny or the pushrod
area.

No loss of performance or and other vibrations. No metal shavings or
burnt smell in the oil or trans fluid. Both fluids are at their
appropriate levels.

I've checked around the entire bike to make sure there
was no loose chrome covers (such as kuyakyn trans cover or the
HD chrome lifter covers.) not the heatshields either.

I guess its off to the dealer tomorrow to take her in for an
examination. Bummer..

Thanks for letting me vent! By the way, the bike is my 01 deuce
with stage 1 (thunderjet slider kit + bassani pipes). Just 2,500 miles.

Good news: you're able to duplicate the noise easily leading to less diagnostic time and hopefully first time fix.

Bad news: looks like you're out of warranty unless you have an extended deal.

Sharp looking ride - Good Luck :)

Hey thanks again for the kind words.. I know, I've gone a bit crazy..
Sometimes I wish I hadn't because I'm scared to leave it out of my sight sometimes.
When it came down to it I paid $85 for them to tell me that I had a loose
pushrod bolt cover. I check that sucker and I thought it looked tight.
It still is making the noise a little.. I dunno.. Runs awesome and they assured me it was cool.. What else can ya do? Maybe I wack off a couple
inches of my baffles and I won't hear a thing!!
Thanks again for the kind words on my deuce.. The paint is a limited
Radical set from H-D, offered in March 2002 with only 150 made. Blue, Teal and Candy Red were also made in this style set, with 150 sets in
each color. I've seen all three of the other colors in person, and
they all look sweet.

just beautiful, i know how you feel about letting it out of your site. i feel that way about my fatboy. it's gotten to the point where i can't enjoy a beer at a strip club, i keep worrying if my bike is o.k., we once came out of a club and a drunk was pissing on my friends' roadking. we got some satisfaction from making the guy lick up his own piss, plus i still have a good laugh when i remember the expression on my friend's face when he saw the guy pissing on his bike. paul.

How do you like the Kuryakyn Twin Velocity breather? I was thinking about it or the Hypercharger when I decide to upgrade carb, etc. But have heard Hypercharger isn't all that great. So other choice is what you have.

And definitely SHWEET bike, BTW.....

I like the twin volocity. I went from stock to the screamin eagle air kit and then got a great deal on a the kuryakyn unit. I really can't tell you if it performs better than the screamin eagle kit because I really didn't notice a difference. It looks cool though, has a K&N filter and seems to do the trick rather well!
And I don't see too many of them out there. The Hypercharger is cool looking, but I've a few guys say they're not impressed for the money spent.
Good luck with whatever ya end up doing. nickp.

I have always heard good things about hyperchargers. I am considering putting one on my 00 Fatboy. Right now the only performance mods I have done is samson big guns, K & N air filter, and rejet the carb. I have been thinking about a Dyna ignition also. A guy I know with a Softail Custom put both the hypercharger and a Dyna ignition in it and said he couldn't believe the difference. Just my .02. If anybody has any experience with the Dyna please let me know.
