Ness Big Sucker: Stage I vs. II

949 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Gulfstream
From what I can tell the only difference between the Stage I and II is the II has a larger filter which allows for increased air flow. Currently I'm not looking at doing more than just new exhaust, PCIII and air breather. My question is since the cost difference between the I and II isn't that big should I just go ahead and get the Stage II version? How will this effect my map?

The stock twin cam air cleaner cover will not fit on the stage II. The old round evo style will.
Like he said, the only issue is the cover. The A/C will only pass as much air as the engine wants. A less restrictive A/C will not harm a thing. Had you dyno tuned with a more restrictive A/C and then went less restrictive, you might see a thinner A/F ratio
Makes sense. So really unless I'm planning on doing stage II later on, putting it on doesn't hurt but doesn't help either. Just cost more and is bigger next to my leg.

As a follow on... with the filter exposed, how do you deal with rain?
... not that I want to ride in the rain
... and it nevers rains in San Diego
... like it did to me this last Sunday :(

Another thing to consider is the size of the filter...if it's much taller it can interfer with your right leg and be uncomfortable on longer rides. I run an exposed filter here in Georgia where we get a fair amount of rain...never have had a problem. I think the oil/gauze filter stops most of it, besides a little water in the intake won't harm a thing...water injection has been used for years to help build BIG power by lowering detonation!
