Ok heres the deal. I have a 95 ultra classic. It has 70,000+ miles. The bike has seen east, west and gulf coast as well as chicagos lake front. Now heres the bad, the trans is shot and needs either a gear set or complete replacement. My question is does anyone make a complete replacement besides baker? Are the decent? Yes baker is the best, but I cant afford one. If anyone recommends baker they have better be prepared to kick me the extra 2,000 its going to cost for baker. They have many brands out there and more coming out every week; revtech, ultima, primo, milwaukee vtwin, prowler ect ect. again dont even mention baker if your not prepared to purchase one for me. I gotta get this repaired soon as this summers ride is from Houston to chicago to connecticut and back to houston.

Buy a complete OEM gearset on ebay, or find one from a local shop.

Normal going price is about 150, although I just picked one up for 80 bucks.

Get the latest year 5 speed gearset you can find.

What is wrong with your transmission?

Why would you ask if there is any other besides Baker and then list some others that aren't Baker??
Why tell us not to mention Baker but you mention Baker 5 times??
You better pick one of the other manufactures besides Baker so that you can get back on the road again.
I wouldn't dream of mentioning Baker as a possible fix. :coffee: :)

Seriously, what is wrong with your transmission??

Unless your transmission case is damaged there is really no reason to replace it. Take the gearset out (the transmission doesn't even have to be remove) and inspect it. Replace what needs to be and put it back together. Harley parts will be fine.

These 5-speed transmissions are great and should not "be shot" at 70,000 + miles. While it is apart try to fiqure out what happened and make sure you fix this so it doesn't do it again.

Once you get into the transmission you will probably be surprised that there is not much wrong with it. It will defiantly be cheaper to fix than replace.

alright heres the deal, it appears one of the lip seals started leaking which require removing 5 speed gear set anyways. over the years and repeated trans oil changes I've noticed more and more silver in the oil. Ive moved to texas and the speed limit in most places is 70 or 75. Ive seen 80 as posted speed limit:woohoo:. No i dont want to change pulleys as I do get into some urban city driving. I've called a few shops in the area, cant find anyone that wants to tackle the project besides the harley dealer for 3,000 dollars. Ive called midwest myself and cant even find one of their reps that want to tackle it. I could probally do it myself but Im gonna have to get some specialty tools which I should get anyways. any ideas? I may just go rivera primo? guess I just gotta pull the trigger at some point?
