I bought a 1991 FLSTC tonight at a local Harley Dealer. It was parked with the late model used bikes and is just as clean and flawless as a newer bike. In fact, I didn't know the difference in the year models and couldn't tell that this wasn't only a couple of years old. Just a super nice bike. The paint looks like the day it rolled out of the showroom.
This bike has a 1340 evo engine that has an S&S carb, cams (they sound on the milder side to me) and Vance and Hines drag pipes. It also has new wheels, great tires, a corbin seat and lots of chrome.
I traded a 2004 Suzuki VS 1400 for the Harley. The Harley shop is about 30 miles away. I rode the Heritage home and it was very different than the Suzuki. The cammed EVO sounds incredible. It is everything a Harley should be as far as sound. At idle it has the most awesome lope. Even the guys in the service area said that this bike sounded the best on the lot.
The power is sufficient but, the Intruder would easily smoke it in a drag race, every time. The Intruder probably handles better too. But, I would say that the Heritage is a better ride if you're going all day. My wife says it's very much better for her. My wife asked me the difference and I told her that the Heritage feels more like "an adult bike". You can't wrestle it, you gotta drive it. I was draggin the floor boards tonight. That part is one thing about the Heritage I've got to be mindful of. It drags hard parts pretty quick.
I'm looking forward to years of riding.
