I have a 1998 Dyna Wide Glide. Straightened a curve out bent the forks, and flipped it. I’m just putting it back together. Rebuilt the front forks and got the tire and fender on it but tried to start it and found it with start to turn over and then dead stops. It will move about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch but then stops. The starter will turn it that much but then it stops dead. What would cause the motor to be locked up. Put it in 5th gear and tried to turn the motor that way but it still is locked up?

Remove the rocker boxes, see if all the valves close, if they do, try to rotate the engine.

If it has adjustable pushrods, just pull the top cover from the rockerboxes, remove or loosen the pushrods (depending on what type they are) and see if the valves are all seated.

that could be a number of things that are not good. If the bike sat for a long period of time before you got it start by taking out the spark plugs and see if you can turn it over. If yes dont start it ....put some marvel mystery oil ....just a couple of ounces turn it over slowly. let it sit a day turn it again if its still catching , repeat until it turns smoothly. GL
