Metzler Tire Update.
Good News and Bad News

Sent a message to Metzler a few weeks ago inquiring about the availability of the new 120/70ZR19 ME880 front tire for the V-Rod.

Stated that I was using a 200/50VR18 ME880.

See the reply.

Take it for what its worth.

Larry,
I run the Metzler 100/90/19 up front ME Marathon and Matching
240/40/18 rear and it's the Hot setup. You have to do LITTLE MOD TO FENDER BOLT"tire grows at speed",but have found it to look really good and handle awsome on my Custome V-rod!
My wheels are Ricks Custom and are The best Big Tire setup made for our V-rods!E-mail me if you want a pic.

SuperKaz,

What type of fender bolt mod? Just shortening the bolt? I'd love to see your pics. I'd also like to know how much $$ it set you back. Mind me asking? What comes with the setup?

Kaz.

I have drooled over the pictures of your bike. It’s the best out there!!
Better than Holly’s. And that’s a great bike.

I want to keep the stock wheels and the stock look.
I would love to run a 240. The look is awesome.

So for you techs out there, what are the safety related problems of running the 240 on the stock 5.5 rim? Keep in mind I’m not KAZ running at 147mph.
I probably never run over 120 and that would not be very often.

One more thing Kaz.
I’m going to lower the bike with the Harley Chrome Low Profile shocks.
Depending on who you talk to those shocks lower the V-Rod 1” or an
1 ½”.
How much dose lowering add to the tire clearance problem?

I think your spelling is fine.

Larry: I would strongly recomend you NOT do that. If you could even get that size tire on the rim[5.5] The profile would be so wrapped that the Bead would not sit flat and leak! Not to mention, Belt deflection and profile. That size tire will not fit under the stock fender at all,nor will the belt clear. The guys at RICK's move the wheel over, not much but a little. More importantly they use a wider wheel!
The 200series just clears everything and dosn't seem to bother the handling or speedo at all. And looks good!
It dosn't surprise me that Metzeler Corprate can't recomend the 200 [vr]
The speed rating on the VR=149mph, the ZR=168mph.

Larry ,
Thank you!
As you know I have put alot of Time and Money into my V-rod!I found with the lower profile rear tire and new rear fender there was a "Stink Bug " Look with the A$$ End all Jacked up!I was able to lower my rear by a full 2 inches ,and not run into clearance issues.Mt tire is much Shorter than stock and the New Ricks fender gave me alot more room the play.I'm noy sure on a stock setup how far you could go?Steve would know about that .
Good Luck,and I know my Spelling Sucks!LOL....

Steve.
I agree with you about Metzler covering their A$$.

I’m still going to use the 200 VR
My question is; have you tried the Kaz recommendation,
100/90/19 on a stock bike?

Have my wheels and other parts out being chromed. Should be back by the end of the month. Hate to sit and wait another month for the new Metzlers to be available.
Their already 2 months behind.

I would just run the D207 front untill the ME880 is released. It may just happen in time! The latest is 1-10-03. I only have 6 on order, I think I'll get more!
