Two hundred miles on the the new bike and two hundred miles from home I see a small puddle of oil under the back of the engine. Got down and looked under and the left shock was all wet. It smelled like gear lude and I know the transmission oil is the same. I drive 150 mile to the dealer where I purchased the the bike a week earlier and after 3 hours I was and a new main shaft seal replacement I was on my way to Street Vibs. I hope this is the last problem I have . My last HD (99 Dyna) never had a problem in 4 years of ownership. I ended the weekend with over 800 miles on the bike and it felt like 100. Love the Softail.

Mine had the same thing at 1000 miles ('02 Fat Boy). Seems OK since (2300 miles).
Mine leaked with just a couple hundred miles, took it back, got it fixed, and bike did it again some hundred miles later. Things have been drip free for the last 900 miles as I am crossing my fingers. Dealer says its a design flaw w/harley. Gonna get the gas gauge fixed next and all should be good again...
i own a 2002 dyna low rider. i have a small leak under the primary drive case. is this the same seal everyone is talking about? the primary case oil was a little low. thanks!
hi again, is the problem with the fuel gauge being it reads less than the tank actually has? thanks!
The primary oil is orderless and we all know how strong gear lub smells.
