I have a '99 FLHRI and am looking for tips on lowering it. I am 5'9" tall and I can only put my toes on the ground (using both feet at same time). I would like to be able to put my heels on the ground. When I have someone riding on the back seat, it feels perfect... i can put both feet all the way to the ground. If you have any suggestions please let me know.

By the way, I upgraded from a sportster to my RK last month. And I am loving every ride.

Thanks,
Mike

Straydog,

Yes I have considered replacing the seat. However, I do not want to compromise on comfort, expecially on long rides. I have recently found a lowering kit, supplied by White Bros. It is supposed to lower the bike by 1 inch. I was wondering if anyone has installed this kit (or anything similar) on thier bike. The lowering braket simply bolts on the lower shock support. But, I am currious as to how it effects the ride and how difficult the intallation actually is.

I look forward to and welcome any feedback.

Thanks,
Mike

White bros lowering kit

I know a mechanic who has installed this option (as well as the kickstand bracket) It was installed on a 01 FLHT. The bike will handle a little differently from what I was told. The install took about 2 hours. I think it is a nice option, It changes the stance of the motorcycle. You need to pay attention if you have hard bags on the bike though, I think there is a difference between 01 and 02 in the clearance of the rear shocks.
I've been considering installing it myself.
Hope this Helps!

A couple of coments,
I have a '99 FLHRCI and even though I am 6' it sits too high. The White Bros. bracket is a good fix because of cost and you get to keep the air shocks. It is also easy to install. Lowering the rear just an inch does not effect the ride much. I think it improves the look of the RK because they look sorta sit rear high when stock.
You will hear comments about scraping the floorboards. Rest assured unless you are a very aggressive rider that will not be a problem.
I have to also agree with Straydog. If you are riding with the stock seat get rid of it. Comfort is a big deal and there are lots of aftermarket seats that are more comfortable and will sit you lower than stock. I have a Corbin seat and I get neg. comments about how hard they are. Correct, they are harder but they are fit so well to the human butt that a 400 mile day is not a pain in the #*!!

FLHRCI Lowering

I see a couple of you mention using the WB lowering kit. Everything I see in the WB web site says it is not for the FLHRCI. What gives? I have a 2003 and would like to lower it. I have already gone to the Sundowner seatr which gave me another inch. To add alittle more I bought thick soled boots. Another inch would jsut about do it for me.

Before I got the V-Rod bug I was planning to buy a RK, so I did lots of research. Obviously, you can buy 1" shorter rear shocks from HD or Progressive or the cheaper way it seems is to look at the product sold by TJ Products, Inc. They hava an ad in Thunder Press or call at 208-736-4697 [web site at www.TJ-Products.com[. Their product is like White Brothers only it drops the rear shock straight down rather than back and down like WB Good for 1 or 1 1/2". I also looked at seats and the Mustang solo or two up is about 1" lower and much more comfortable than any stock seat.

Harleyridindude, I am lowering the front also 1 inch. lowering the rear only will work and really not much of a different ride. the problem I've encountered is after 4 or 5 hours it seems like you have to lean into the bike more because it is angled down (front to rear) which for me creates more back fatigue. if your riding with a rider backrest won't be a problem. I like a rider backrest, just not all the time.
