Lower RPM - looming sign of failure?

Up and back to work today I noticed RPM was running
300-400 RPM lower than normal. At 70 mph I usually see
around 3000 RPM - did not see 3000 until almost 80
(ran faster to see when it would reach 3K). Is this a
sign that something mechanical may be about to fail,
or needs tightening or changing? '05 HD Ultra
Classic, stock from fender tip to fender tip; only
maintenance to date is IAW service manual; ~22,600 on
the odometer; no noticable degradation in power or
ride comfort; same route as every other day. Thoughts?

Check your battery, charge rate and electrical connections in the charging system and tachometer circuit. .......sometimes a poor battery, bad charge rate can affect an electronic tachometer.
