I recently converted my 883 to a 1200, and immediately started getting a "chirping" sound coming out of the breather ports in the air cleaner (once the engine is warmed-up). It took me a while to find it, but today finally did - I discovered that the noise goes away if I hold a rag over the breather vents, slowing the passage of air (or perhaps just muffling the noise?).

I'm using a stock carb with the screamin' eagle air cleaner.

I suspect the culprit is the umbrella valves - I will have to check with the guy who rebuilt the engine to see what he installed, but in the meantime I'd like to know if anyone else has had this problem and discovered the cause or found a solution.

I've already mentioned the noise to the mechanic and he had no idea where it was coming from or what it was - I had to find the source of the noise myself. So I suspect the mech isn't going to have any idea about the exact cause or a likely solution.

Thanks
