Thanks to the forum members who advised me that Langlitz jackets were the best, or at least tied with Vanson . I was wearing a terrorist (Pakastani) jacket lately due to being a size 66 portly and not being able to find anything else. That jacket was buffalo, cheap and looked it too, although I think it was fairly tough and may have survived one fall.

I just discovered what true luxury is in a leather . 15 minutes ago I took delivery of a goatskin Langlitz Columbia jacket. Made to my measurements of course. I'm in Michigan and they are in Portland, Or. It only took 3 weeks after I faxed the order form . I specified goat after much debate and discussion. The medium weight cowhide sample was gorgeous but I wanted something more supple and light. The goat is still durable, actually stronger than cow of equal thinkness, and more waterproof ! It feels like an old friend from the first wearing. I basically took their stock Columbia jacket, but specified a few extras like a leather lined gun pocket, leather lined hand pockets, sewn down epualets, and no waist belt.

The most amazing thing is the perfect fit. I'm rarely satisfied in that department, and this fits like, well, like it was made for me :)) . I notice that it's fits BEST in the riding position, like it should ! Not that the fit is lacking walking around, but it can't be perfect in both applications, and apparently they know how to make minor adjustments so you will be best served when riding. Frankly, at their prices it HAS to be perfect. They offer a money back guarantee but I can see I'll never need it.

Anyway, my highest endorsement to Langlitz. Neil Young bought two for all his band members, one lightweight and one heavy. Bruce Springsteen has three. I have one, and it's PERFECT :D ...Tom

I hope I'm not being redundant, but I too had a hard time deciding on the type of leather to order. I'm usually too warm, slightly damp if not sweating in a leather. I told Dave about this and he thought that even the medium cowhide would be too heavy for me. This is compounded by the weight and size of a jacket for me (I'm a 66"). He told me that he really thought I'd be happy with goatskin and sent me some samples (light cow, medium cow, goat). He thought that the light cow would not offer enough protection. Goatskin, although very supple right from the start, is stronger than cowhide of equal thickness.

Well, after looking at the samples, and talking to Dave again, I ordered goat as I described in my initial post. I just want to say that now I've had the jacket for almost 2 months. I'm convinced that for me, goatskin was the right decision. Everytime I put it on I smile, just like I do everytime I climb on the Road King :)...Tom

Ray,

It's encouraging to hear that Dave did the right thing by you. I'm hoping that being so far away mine is perfect as is. My collar snaps down. I wonder if you had a different style ? So far, the fit on mine seems to be spot on !

The old fashioned customer service they offer is hard to find nowadays. My local leather expert who has many brands of jackets in his store (2nd generation leather merchant) told me that Langlitz's guarantee was absolute. They don't hesitate to make you another garment if yours doesn't work. Frankly, at the price they charge I think it should be that way, but it's a rare thing nowadays.

Langlitz has my future business...Tom
