Here is my dilemma (not to be confused with enema): I’ve bought a used 2001 Heritage with 300 miles on it. Is it a bad idea to change the oil before completing the break-in period?

Assuming the oil is four years old, I’m thinking it needs to be changed. Is there special break-in oil that H-D uses for new or rebuilds?

Your input is appreciated.

Harley doesn't use any special in new motors except CVO's and that just an over the counter synthetic. I don't think you could do any harm and the benefits could be important. Depending how it has been stored for four years, there could be moisture from condensation in the cases. Even with light yearly mileage, say 2000 or 3000 miles, oil should be changed yearly. If it was mine, I'd change all the fluids now and also at 1000 miles during it's normal check up. Oil's cheap protection for an expensive machine.
