Is it possible for a reasonable amount of money? Are there aftermarket systems that are available or would I have to put an HD system on it?

curious at this point

Yes

No

If you want a fuel injected Sportster, buy one. Sell the carburetor model. Take whatever you can get for it, which would probably be less money than you will spend trying to convert a carbureted bike to fuel injection. In other words, you may spend more than the bike is worth. Sportsters went to fuel injection sometime around 2007 or 2008. A 15 year old Sportster is not worth that much. You can probably buy one at a very reasonable price. Suppose you get around $3,000 for your bike. You may find a fuel injected model for around $5,000.

You'll need a FI case and wheel set for adapting something oem. They need to count teeth on a flywheel. With that, it not really all that hard.

There used to be some throttle body add-on units out there, not sure if any of them are still around. They were bolt ons in place of a carb, but they made the same power for more money than a well tuned needle carb.

Past that there are the spool valve mechanical systems. But they are pretty much idle and WFO.
