Inspection Sticker ....

I just cut a piece of aluminum big enough to hold mine, and screwed up way up under the frame - make 'em work for it if they wanna see it - have to remove it and screw it up front in plain view for the inspection, then re-move it on my way home. Have yet to get any crap from the law for it... but then again, our cops have more important thing to worry about here in NC.

An aquaintence of mine traced the bar and shield pattern of his backrest insert to a template and transfered it to .125 sheet aluminum,cut it out with a scroll saw, cleaned up the edges with a fine file, finished with progressively finer wet-or-dry paper & water and finally Simichrome polish. Looks good and is quite unique! Leave a tab of excess metal to acommadate the mounting hole.
I rigged this one last night to sit directly above the plate light. It is cut down to be no bigger than the sticker itself. While it hides the plate light, it is there for the cop to see if he wants to and will work fine. I mounted it between the plate and the plate mount so basicly it is functional yet invisible.

Daisy, mmmmmm, I'd hit that! Anyhow, back to the inspection sticker. I keep mine in my wallet, no problems so far. Do they really need to be displayed? Maybe different states have different rules. I was thinking about getting one of those document/stash tubes that go behind your tag frame to put it in. We will see..........
Everybody in Mississippi keeps their sticker in their wallet. Only the Police Officers on motorcycles mount their stickers on their bike (but then it really isn't their bike). I don't carry a wallet and I like the idea of mounting it on one of those plates DJW referred to so I don't have to keep up with it.

jimmy kuryakyn has a plate just for Texas, it is part number 9162 and is on page 80 of there catalog for 2002, it is 2, 7/8x4 and is stated in the book Texas Inspection Plate.
Agh! It just hit me. Our inspection stickers go on the INSIDE of the windshield, so those two chrome inspection sticker plates I just ordered won't work. The adhesive is on the printed side. I need some sort of clear plate so the sticker can attach to the back of it.
I don't want to put the sticker on my windshield.
Anybody have any ideas?

Sure, use the same type of plate, just make it out of plexi or lexan.
We don't have seperate stickers. That's why everyone carries them in their wallet. Most bikes other than a few Harleys don't have windshields so there is no place to put them. The motorcycle cops put them on the inside of their bike windshields. On cars the inspection guys scrape last year's sticker off with a razor blade. I can imagine them trying that on my lexan windshield .

It's that thing that shows that after we have fallen victim to The HarleyWhore, we did not catch nothing from her and that the "product of our love" is a clean machine in spite of it all. I think.

Freedom isnt Free. Thanks to Abate of Illinois, I dont have to put up with a bunch of BS laws. We had helmet laws back in the 70's too. Now it's Freedom by Choice. Every year it's a battle with the lawmakers who want to tell us what is best for us. Next time some Anti-Biker dickhead starts on a spiel about how dangerous motorcycles are or how we should be required to wear helmets , refer them to the " Hold the Cheese " article that appeared in L.A. Magazine February 1996. It uses statistics from the National Safety Council's " Accident Facts, 1994 Edition ".
I'm sure there is newer material and articles out there somewhere though. Here are a few numbers from the NSC that appeared in that article... 2500 motorcycle fatalities, 40,676 automobile fatalities (which is the leading cause of death in ages 5 through 32 ) , 12,000 fatalities from slips,trips and falls. I believe the largest part of these are the result of head injuries, including the slips and falls.
Now I'm sure you all realize that your State and Federal lawmakers have only your best interests at heart. Their only motivation for passing laws is because they want to look out for you and keep you safe !!! It has nothing to do with special interests or money. LoL
Anyway, the article ends saying something like " We can only wonder when the government will decide that the only time we dont need to wear a helmet is when we're asleep in bed. "
Umm. Actually I've banged noggins pretty hard in bed a few times, maybe I should've been wearing a helmet.
Phew. Did I really just write all that ? Sorry about the rant, too much caffeine today I suppose.
