If you have a 2001 or 2002 Bagger with a FRONT fender tip lamp, there is a new recall out. It looks like there is a problem with the wiring harness in the front fender and you can lose ALL lighting at speed at any time.
Get it taken care of.
Twice my entire lighting system went out on my 01 Ultra. Time 1, dusk, returning from Laconia. All of a sudden no lights. Trying to change the fuse on the side of the road in the darkness is a challenge. Time 2, Sturgis, after a couple hours at the Broke Spoke. Again, dark. This time, though, i had a flashlight. The problem, in 01, they went to the smaller fuses. When the bike went out the first time, I used the replacment fuse in the fuse box. When I got home, I repalced the fuse with a new one. What I didn't realize was that the "replacement" fuse I put in the box was the older style (they look the same, just a little bigger) and would not fit. Found out the hard way. Had to be escorted by a couple of buddies back to the Buffalo Chip in total darkness. Totally sucked, was dangerous, and risked getting busted as a no lights deal is an instant reason to be pulled over anywhere. Both times took the bike to the stealer and, of course, "no problem found" (they blamed it on my halogen passing lights).
I was glad to see this recall. All of you should be sure to take your scoot in because this is something that happens when you least expect it (and likely least want to deal with it)
I saw this notice after I had bought a new flhtc but before I brought it home. I asked the sales people and they didn't know what I was talking about. They said they had not recieved a bulletin on it yet. When I went to pick it up, the service rep said they had fixed it there at the shop all ready. He said they hadn't recieved any harnesses to fix it yet but they did a shop fix there. I'm kind of doughtful this was done.
Do you know what the fix entails ano or what to look for so I can see if it has been done? Thanks
Sales people are usually the last ones to find these things out. Service is supposed to correct this sort of thing before the bike leaves the store, if it applies to the particular bike, but if a recall is performed there is documentation somewhere.

You can try to go to the HD website in the service section and enter the VIN. If it appears for your bike it definitely was not done, but if it does not appear it does not mean much, as the site is not that reliable.
