I have a HD oil cooler on my 02 Fatboy. It leaked from the get go. I bought this bike slightly used from a friend which lives 900 miles away. He had the cooler installed at the dealer. Being a do it yourselfer I decided to fix it myself. As suspected the main adaptor housing needed to be tightened. No big deal providing you have the right socket (1 1/8" I think it was). I also tweeked the hoses a bit tighter.

Been a few months, dry as a bone. I have the inexpensive guage/dipstick and see temps of 175 to 225 deg.F

Thats good to hear. Good luck with the new bike.

My installation may have been a fluke. As with any dealer installed option, the installation quality is dependant on the actual individual that does installation. That can vary at any dealership.

I personally only see benifits to having an oil cooler.
