This may be a dead issue but I will add my info for future readers.
I have a 200/55r-17 on a 2007 17x6" Softail wheel on my '06 Deuce.

To make it work is not that hard and fairly inexpensive. I bought the wheel off ebay for $200. I bought the tire from bikebandit for $120. I had my stock pulley milled down 7/16" on the backside and 1/16" shaved off the face rim. I replaced the pulley-side axle spacer with a new 1.25" one. You can cut your stock deuce one down if you don't want to go back to the stock wheel.

I had to grind about 1/4" at 45degree angle off of the brake tab on the swing arm to allow for wheel clearance. I had to grind off about 1/4" off of the bottom part of the brake caliper to allow for rim clearance. Both of these are obvious when you start.

I had to trim 1" off of the rock gaurd to allow for the larger tire. Easy.

The only other thing you need to know is that you will have to position the wheel in place with no brake rotor on. Slip the caliper into position, slide the rotor in from the back and then stick the axle through. You can then bolt up your rotor to the wheel.

The fender and strut covers will mount up nice!

$200 wheel
$120 Tire
$55 Machining cost.


$375 for a 200mm mounted!

I machined my 1 1/8" Weld Recluse Pulley to the width of the stock 2006 HD pulley that they use, (.840). I can tell you that the width, (space between the swing arms), is the same between the 2002 and the 2006. No maching is required of the wheel itself. I had Weld set the 18x5.5" wheel up with a hub for a '02 FXST Softail and used my custom made spacers to center the wheel in the swingarm and used a 7/16" pulley spacer to make room for the belt between the swingarm and tire. I also had to machine the stock '02 lower belt guard to get the clearance between it and the tire. Then there's the maching of the brake caliper in order to keep it centered over the brake rotor. No shims were used between the brake rotor and wheel. I used "Custom Struts," (www.CustomStruts.com), removed the inner frame horns and had a '06 Bobtail fender painted to match my custom 32/150 paint set. Stock 2-up HD Sidewinder Seat and Mammoth Choppers Saber solo fit perfectly.

My first attempt at this allowed me to put a 160x60x18 inside the stock '02 bobtail fender using a 18x3.5 Weld Recluse and Recluse 1 1/8" pulley.

It's been raining here, and I've been promising to post pics for awhile now. Just need to get them posted. No excuse other than I can't seem to get my hands on the camera when I ride. I'll see if I can get some posted this week, providing the rain stops.

I am running the stock 2006 Deuce pullet and belt. I don't have any pix of the pulley mill. It will make perfect sense when you take the old wheel off and stick the new one in for test fitting.
 
i have a 2000 standard, if i cut the frame horns could i just run a fender and tire off of an 07 standard with the smaller pully and what not? seems like it would would but not 100% sure. Im still debating on running a duce rear w/ a 160 or just putting a 200 out back, eather way the stock 130 has got to go
 
the parts should just be cut the frame horns, a new narrow belt/pully, spacers 9" fender and struts. Possible a brake calaper. I went the cheaper route and just doing a 160/deuce rim combo on mine its going to total me under $500 :thumbsup:
 
On my '02, (Which is the same swingarm as your '00), I started by perfectly centering the wheel within the fender. You have to add .25 to the wheel spacer on the left side, machine .25 off of your brake caliper, (not the wheel spacer), as you must retain the proper relationship of the caliper to the brake rotor. Also add .25 thick spacer between the pulley and the wheel to move the pulley to the left side of the bike. All strut bolts that will be nearest the tire sidewall, (4 heads inside the fender), must be ground down to "T-slot" type heads to maximize clearance between the fender and the sidewall of the tire. (My bolt heads were almost square, approx. .125 thick). Depnding on tire Mfgr; (diameter and profile), wheel size, (diameter and width) and ride height of rear of bike, in alot of cases more clearance can be had by lowering the rear by 1 1/2 - 1 3/4" due to the flange on the stock Bobtail style fender.

I ran a 160 x 50 x 18 on a Weld Recluse 18 x 3.5 wheel without any clearance problems.

Note that .25 worked for me and .25 is a round number that's easily obtained in the aftermarket. Take your own measurements of your own swingarm. You may find that you need +/- .125 of the .25 to get it exact. It's tight, but it fits / clears fine and fills the fender nicely. Great look and low dollar investment.

I now have a 200mm tire inside the same swing arm on a custom Weld 18 x 6" Recluse. That's another story..

Did you retain the stock bobtail fender and fender horns with the 200 tire?

No. I used a HD '07 fender, removed the frame horns and used 'Custom Struts' billet chrome fender struts. The struts are designed to retro-fit the '02 frame to the '07 fender.

hello forum, just joined and have bought a project softtail that i want to put a 200 tire on and am looking for recommendtions and so forth...advice etc on this .....
i think the bike is an 2003 but am unsure at this time, its been sitting in a basement for 2 years after an off, but except for tins and controls, looks real straight and i couldnt pass it up at 3000.00

i will post the few pics i have, after i shrink them a bit.

im finding a ton of different ways to go here after a google search, including some "stock swingarm kits" that i see mentioned here as far back as 2003 ....

hope its ok to post this??

yea i know there are tons, from the swingarm swaps w/new trans parts to the "easier" ones such as the dmcustoms tc-2(thats what i have been looking at) seems better than moving the trans and all that other crap.

its gonna be a bit anyway, what with the weather here and all i havent even tried to get the bike over to my garage and up on the table so i can start taking apart all the bent ****.....though now is the time for all that.....

I have a 2002 Deuce and I have put a 200mm tyre on it looks and rides fantastic. Yes you have to get a bigger rim I used a 5.5 x 18 and put a 200mm Metzeler, you have to change the drive belt and pully to the narrow one I got mine off a 2006 softail, yes you have to centre the new wheel and to do that you have to shave off the lug on the brake calliper where the axel passes through and also the part of the frame where the calliper is held at the bottom this allows the wheel to move to the right and becomes centred, add a spacer each side , not hard you can cut your own, when you have the wheel centred then you can work out what pully spacer you will need> Job done, now if you want to use the original guard you have to make thinner inner guard brackets and cut the nuts in half to make them thinner as well otherwise your tyre will rub but by doing this it wont. You will also have to remove the number plate bracket as it will rub as well ( if you are not mechanically minded and don't have a lot of time don't bother but if you are it will cost about two grand all up ) I have also changed my back guard now and made my own new struts look awesome, I also got sick of the look of the narrow tank so I cut mine in half and widened the front of it by 70mm welded it back together, done the panel work and resprayed it looks amazing and I have never seen anyone do that. all pictures are available if anyone is interested.
