How much air are you running in your rear shocks?

I know the standard RK's and classics run a little more.
I have a Road King custom and the manual says for a solo rider with my weight about 5 psi.
I also know the RK custom is not gonna ride as well as the taller RK's....

Just wondering what y'all are runnin them at, primarily I am interested for a solo rider.

thx

quite a range of pressures

interesting, some of you guys run much more than the moco suggest, others ride with zero pounds...

i'll have to experiment more with it... 5 lbs for me seems a little harsh ride, again it may be due to the lowered stance of the custom... Also this is my first bagger and air shock setup, so I have nothing to compare it to..

thanks for replies

My Custom came from the dealer at 10 PSI, but I increased it to 15 PSI and believe it improved the handling without making a noticeable difference in ride quality.

You might keep in mind that when adding air to the shocks, you should be careful not to over-inflate [and perhaps blow the shocks] as it doesn't take much volume to increase the pressure several PSI's. In other words, a little bit of air goes a long way.

I don't have a bicycle or dedicated hand pump for the shocks. I found if I open the valve on my portable air tank, charge the hose, and turn off the valve, the volume on the hose is enough to raise the air shocks 2-3 PSI at a time.

shock air pressure

well, I'm 175, really I am, and I've been following the manual.
I did "spring" for the moco pump, and actually it seems to work really well. Yep, a little pricey though, like all their shiit.
I'm gonna pump it up today to 10 and try that. We'll see!^rolleyez^

I dumped the air shocks on my Custom simple because I could not get them adjusted where the wife wasn't getting slammed every time we hit a bump/ridge in the road. I have the Harley air pump so I tried dialing it in as precise points to test. I could never find a point that she was satisfied with. I weigh in at 180 while she's about 150. My opinion is that the OEM shocks where just made for heavier riders. Although I agree as mentioned above the Custom is never going to ride as nice as the taller shocks. I had a Fatboy that rode better than this one stock.

Finally went with Progressive 440s standard. THe tech at Progressive told me the standard was designed for solo riders up to 225. The new shocks have made a difference in the ride which even the wife is now satisfied with.

FLHRS air shocks

For the Custom, the manual says 5 lbs with solo and no load. However, mine will bottom out on normal street imperfections, so I upped it to 15 and it is much better; no more bottoming. I have not noticed an reduction in ride quality. I might even go higher. I weigh 185.

I weigh 230, my wife probably 150to 160. I run about 25# solo and about 32# 2 up when the tourpack is on and loaded. I got a friend that just put the Progressive 440 Heavy Duty on his Ultraclassic, rides 2 up and he and his wife loved the ride (we just did 2155 miles in 6 days a week or so ago). I like the air adjustment, but I am thinking when I get a few more miles on my RK standard, I probably will go the Progressive route myself. I don't always think to adjust the air according to how I am riding and a few pounds makes a difference either way.

I use 12" Progressive 440s Heavy Duty. With them you will ride better than 13" air shocks on the taller RKs. Since you're light (for a HD rider) and are looking for solo. You could go with the 440 standard duty.
Genoway,
I weigh 230 lbs. Which shock do you recomend for my weight? The standard or heavy duty?

Thanks
