As posted by others above, sell it outright. Don't take a hit with the middle man. It's probably going to be tough right now with the economy but, take your time.
There are lots of used bikes out there that can be had for a song... probably already set up with the mods you want. If you're willing to be patient, you'll get the golden goose. If you're in a hurry, you may have a difficult time walking upright.
Get your financing in order before you need it, if you're going to finance it. It doesn't take that long to do.
The key in your situation is patience. Take your time and get what you need to out of the bike you have and, wait.... it may take a couple of months to find the right one.... you may need to rent a u-haul bike trailer for 15.00/day to go and pick it up. No worries, the deals are out there..... especially right now.
