I've done this. Over the past four years, I've owned four bikes (still have two of them).
My Road King Custom I basically turned into a Road King. The reason I sold it was because the front motor mount went bad and I didn't know what it was. Didn't have access to a forum like this.
I also bought the Night Train - but I love that bike how it was.
However, I justified in my head to trade the Road King in on an Ultra, thinking the extras for my Road King was more than I lost on the swap.
Then I got tired of the Tour Pak permanently affixed to the rear of the Ultra and with all the changes to the 09's justified in my head to trade in on the 09 Street Glide.
Looking back - if I had it all over to do again, I'd have bought a fairing for the Road King, fixed the front engine mount and saved myself a ton of money.
Quite honestly - I've wasted a lot of "hard to come by " money.
