I have a 2006 XL 883 R, I would like to change the stock muffler/pipes with a high performance one that is not too loud, I like deep rumble type sound, any suggestion? What is the difference in performance between a slip-on and a full pipes change?

No such animal--ya open 'em up & they get louder! However, drilling just a half-inch hole thru the baffle gives you a nice mellow sound, opens the flow up nicely, & still provides enough back pressure to keep everything smooth--basically a "poor man's" torque muffler. A K&N filter in the stock airbox & a turn out on the mixture adjustment will give you a respectable & inexpensive boost in torque & horsepower.

Read in the XL Forum's Rubber Mount Section the post I made there. 04/06 STOCK MUFFLER MOD. It's all Sportster's there.

PS: Read my last post there first it contains all the mods. It makes mufflers between stock and SE-II's if you are a little mechanically inclined.
