I have a $50 open faced helmet with a visor on it that I wear when it gets cold <50 deg, I think the visor really breaks up the dork look . I am thinking of getting a full face for cold riding I had one many years ago before the helmet law was repealed in WI and I didn't like it , but I have a feeling the newer ones are better. ride safe rickpoco

We have 3/4 HJC helmets for hot weather riding, and the HJC Sy-Max (convertable) full face for non-hot weather and road trips. We pretty much went with the HJC brand because they fit us best for comfort, and the prices were not too outrageous. I totally believe in helmet use after demolishing one, but I have to admit we do stand out on group rides as the only ones in jackets and something other than pudding bowls.

First of all, this is my opinion on helmet use:

What is most important to you? 1) Not looking like a "dork" or 2) protecting the most important part of your body? If the answer is 2, then the only real option is a full-face high quality helmet. Personally I prefer flip-up convertibles such as the Nolan N-100 for instance. If that makes me look like a "dork" then so be it, it makes no difference to me what other people think.
Secondly, I believe you should have the right to exercise your opinion as stated here:

The important thing to remember bugeater, is that you PERSONALLY CHOOSE to wear a helmet.
I never ride without a full-face, but I would argue, vote, whatever to allow you to do whatever suits you--after all, it's your head. :D

I believe that's exactly what I'm saying, UpRocks. It seems like everyone has a good idea of what everybody else should be doing, doesnt it ? Even lawmakers who have never even ridden a motorcycle have a good idea of what is best for you when it comes to motorcycling. Or anything else for that matter.

We've had 5 motorcycle fatalities in my area in the last year. 2 of these were wearing helmets. 1 of the remaining 3 was running in excess of 90 mph. Not sure how much help a helmet would have been there. 1 of the remaining 2 was pulling out of a bar parking lot and actually got run over by an ambulance.

I'm not sure how this all compares to current national averages, but the last statistics I saw stated that somewhere in the neighborhood of 50% of motorcycle accidents are alcohol related. Wow !! That means that about half of the 2000 some people who die in motorcycle accidents are shitfaced or get run over by a drunk.

That's a Tragic number, but in terms of numbers of fatalities resulting from head injuries, it's a drop in the bucket. I guess what I'm saying is, if you guys are really worried about head injuries from an accident then you better slap on a lid every time you get in an automobile. Cause chances are that's what's gonna get you.

I hate to end on a sad note, but it's always ironic to me to hear people talk about how dangerous motorcycles are and then jump in their car thinking that they are nice and safe. Yeah, i realize motorcycles are dangerous, but would I even be interested in riding one if the danger was the equivalent of sitting at home on my couch watching TV ? The first motorcycle ride I ever took scared me shitless. Within a week, I had my own bike.

OK you guys started it. I live in MA and I wear a cap, I ride in NH, RI and CT so I can pull it off, am I an idiot, maybe. My CHOICE!!! Thealian is pissed there is a helmet law in MA, question: do you belong to ABATE or MMA? If your answer is no, quit *****'n, if yes I can't hear you. Fact: 250,000 registered motorcycles in MA and ABATE and MMA combined have a little over 1,000 members.
Politicians react to votes only, period. And it's not about the pay scale it's about power, half the assholes on the hill were punching bags when they were kids and this is their revenge.
The major argument is "uninsured motorcyclist cost the taxpayers money". The last time I looked at my paycheck I was a taxpayer and let's have a show of hands on who among us is uninsured.
People get your sh1t together and learn to play the game or next you'll be crying about how the goverment say's motorcycles are dangerous and "costing the taxpayers millons".
OK I'm almost done, took a Toprol and I'm calming down. Next time I meet you in a bar I'll buy you a beer, hell come on up to the clubhouse and I buy all night but, if you whine about how bikers are always getting screwed and I don't see an ABATE or MMA pin/patch, invite me to bury a foot up your ass because your screwing all of us who believe in personal freedoms.
If I offended anyone I appologize, if I pissed anyone off, GOOD.

ABATE just opened a chapter here in North Carolina this June. Information hopefully is on the way.
I'm puzzled as to why this took so long to open here in NC.
There has been a chapter in SC for years.

This is a bullshit argument, fact is, half of the country is living off the other half, therefore, stupidity and laziness also cost the taxpayer money.

Hey Rocko;

Sorry but I disagree, I'm not saying I'm not a member, but even if all 250,000 registered motorcyclists were all members and all went to the state house, THEY DON'T CARE! We voted against the seatbelt law and we have one(hell of a lot more registered autos) we voted to lower the tax rate they just raised it. The problem with voting here in mass is you don't vote for the best person you vote for the lesser of two evils. By the way I belong to many political action groups such as MMA, Abate,NRA, GOAL, IBEW, it just doesn't seem to help. I vote in primaries, main elections, I call, write and Email my politicians only to repeatedly get ignored or the form letter that we respect your opinion but disagree. I have been active politically for years. Nothing personal Rocko, but you did single me out by name. All this sh*t aside lets go for a ride sometime have a beer or whatever and argue politics(I'm just south of boston).

Nah, they'd listen. Are you telling me if 12,000 pissed off bikers showed up at your place of employment waving signs and yelling you wouldn't pay any attention ? Not to mention all the confusion and attention it would get from everyone in the Capitol.
