Hi, I registeredt few months ago, but I did not get a chance to post and here is my first post! :D

I am Ken and I was borned and raised in NC, but currently go to school and work in D.C. Recently, I grew some interest in Harley-Davidson and lose my interest slowly in F-Body (Camaro & Firebird) especially the fact that doomsday is coming. I currently drive a 1997 30th Anniversary SS, which only 963 was made.

I have been wrestling with a decision whether to give up my SS for an HD motorcycle. And I am curious if an Harley-Davidson dealer will accept trade-in deal for me to purchase one?

I was hoping to at least have one in my hand before Sturgis so I can go there for my vacation.

I look forward to become true HD enthusiast and ride with some of you guys here on the board someday!

Welcome aboard, Ken!

Having no experience with either Harleys or ponycars, I would probably not have the best advice, but if I had a limited edition Camaro model, I wouldn't imagine anything short of bankruptcy (or another great F-body; unlikely at this point...) making me get rid of it.

Also, with doomsday coming, I would even more want to hold on to a Camaro or Firebird! Who knows when another opportunity will come to get one?

What sickens me is that when the F-cars go, the only way to get a new car with a small-block Chevy engine will be to buy a Corvette. Let us hope the "all-new" Camaro (and Firebird? I hope so...) in 2004 or 2005 will have the small-block.
Thank for warm welcome..

Money is no objective as of now. I was this close in buying a LT4 SS, but it slipped away from me.

But in realistic, I would be better off with Harley because it will be easier for me to maintain since I live in big city. The only way I wud have to keep my SS is to keep it in NC and drive my truck around. Kinda make it harder on me in warm weather when it is good time to go cruising. :(

Hello Ken,

Glad to have you on the forum, that's what it is all about. I don't know if I would sell or trade my car ,they do come in handy in the winter.LOL Good luck and looking forward to your post.

I have a '99 S-10 pickup. Not a problem. ;)
So I take it that HD dealership will take vehicle trade-in??

I seriously doubt it. Unless you found a dealer that wanted a camero for some reason.

You will probably have to sell your car outright, then use the cash to buy your new HD.

Ok, thank for the info. I will sell my SS, then. ;)
Kenjr, thanks for dropping in. I hope you will enjoy this forum with us. It sounds like you are ready to try the Harley experience. There are so many people who enjoy Harleys but for some it is not the only interest in their lives. It sounds like you have had an interest in cars and are ready for something different. That's great. We weren't all born on motorcycles but riding is something that some of us can't get enough of. I hope you will find the same enthusiasm and love for it that some of us have found. I'm sure that you will find this forum useful and informative for your Harley questions and concerns. We will enjoy hearing your decisions and progress towards getting your Harley and will enjoy your presense when posting here. Thanks for your story.

Later,
FifthGear,

Thank you for your reply. :)

I look forward to use this forum as my good source toward purchasing my first Harley Davidson. And I will share my experience with you folks.

Trade- In

kenjr,

Welcome to the forum. you will like it here. There are a lot of good people here to share knowledge with concerning the world of 2 wheels.
Unless you can find a dealer who wants your car for his own use, I doubt that you can make a deal on a new scooter with it.
From my own experience, with a dealer, it is cash or cash /credit to purchase a motorcycle. I have seen non dealer type shops do what you are asking, but it is not a new motorcycle that they have to exchange for the car. Nor any type of selection to choise from either.
Good luck in finding the H.D. for you. Come back and let us know what you got .

Ride Safe.
O.K., if the Camaro is not suitable for your current situation and you've got all-weather transport covered with the S-10 then so be it.

Do you plan to ride mostly in the city or on the highway? Small and nimble sounds good for city riding, so the best bet with a Harley would probably be a Sportster. The heretic in me says that a Super Sherpa would probably be a better city bike than any post-Aermacchi Harley, but...
Welcome Ken,glad you decided to stop on by! guido
