I ordered the $899 #27564-09 Touring 49 State 103 Stage II kit for my 09 Ultra.

I was curious why it costs $300 less that the same kit for an 07, so I asked my dealer to give me a parts breakdown.

The 07 Kit includes mufflers, the 09 kit includes only a "catalyst equipped exhaust assembly" # 66855-09.

So the Stage Two for an 09 touring is:

Pistons, Jugs, SE AC, CAMS and CAT headers, with associated small parts. The CAMS do not have a part number, just listed as front camshaft, rear camshaft, and listed as "not sold separately."

So I'm ok with that for now. I'll run it for a while, then get slip-ons and a Power Commander V and have it tuned by an indy.

My primary reason to do a factory kit was to maintain my full two-year warranty on the big ticket items and increase low RPM torque.

I would think you'd need some sort of tune after install, whether it's PC, SERT, or dealer download. Either you'll need to change out those mufflers and get a good tune before you'll notice a real increase in performance.

If you go to the CVOharley.com site, they have been core drilling the CATS out of the header pipes and adding new muffler cores. There is a lot of information here. The CATS are very restrictive and you would be better off leaving the stock headers on and changing the mufflers. I bet the cams are the 255 cams.

Yes, I asked my dealer if he would leave the stock header pipes on, and he said he would. He is going to basline dyno it, then do a post install baseline again. No dyno tuning included.

There will be a flash of the ECU, that costs $149 a pop.

I'll check out the cvo site, thanks.

At some point, I will want a PC-V and probably fuel moto pipes, folks seem happy with them.

Why even do the motor if you not going to change the exhaust?MHOP!!! Take out the entire factory exhaust and switch to a good 2 into 1 exhaust with equal length headers ex.D&D Fatcat & Boarzilla!!!!!

Thats what I used (SE PRO Stage II) and I had the rest from Stage 1 (Pipes, Highflow and SE Tuner) worked out good for me.

:crying:

Dropped off my 09 Ultra for the 103 kit. Sure hope the Dealer does the job right. But life is a crap shoot.

I'll add pipes and a Power Commander Five (they will be out soon, I hear) and have it dyno tuned in the near future.

I'll keep you posted....

Guess I'll have to ride my 1985 Yamaha FJ 1100 for a while #@SasF#

I wish you all the best on your mods. I was lucky and to this day when I go by the shop the dealer and installer said I got a good one. On the dyno tune the bike broke the rear hub of the dyno machine. Thats enough torque for me.

Wow, two days...

Wow...

The dealer got my 103 kit installed and delivered in just two days. Mostly anyway. I dropped it of on their Sunday drop off program, and they are closed on Mondays.

Tuesday morning they called to say they had it apart and the stock 09 header pipes do not have a CAT in them, but the kit pipe does (no mufflers included in this kit) so we decided not to install the kit pipe.

Tuesday afternoon I dropped by to meet the mechanic and see the bike, already had the new jugs and pistons on (see photo).

Yesterday afternoon he was just finishing up the cams, said he would be done and test ride it. He rode if about 45 miles.

This morning they called and said come pick it up. Amazing. Looks just like it did before. A keen eye can see the SE AC. Sound is a little more throaty, and a little lumpier at idle.

I have to break it in all over again, but it does feel a tad different on acceleration, but I'm keeping it between 2-3K rpm.

Factory kit, factory download, full factory warranty. Have 1250 miles on it now, exactly one month old.

Total parts: $979
Download: $149
Labor: $975 ([email protected]$75)
Shop Supplies: $5
Tax: $132

Out the door $2241

I'll kep updating this thread as I go. There is another HD forum out there somewhere and the consensus is this is a great bang for the buck kit for baggers. My riding style is to keep it under 4K rpm, and that is where this kit is supposed to shine.

Yes, I got to keep all the takeoffs.

I plan on having it tuned by an indy when the new power commander comes out, or perhaps with a HD SuperTuner.

I'll probably replace the paper air filter element with a K&N, but I doubt I change the mufflers.

I rode it another 70 miles this afternoon....I like it!

If you happen to be passing and reving in the 4000 to 4500 rpm range and it feels like it stops pulling a little, just shift up and it'll pull hard again.

What that kit really should have is compression releases, the hot starts can be a little tough. Since it's not dyno tuned you want listen for engine ping, that kit really needs the tune to be spot on.

I had some warranty work done on my heads and had the releases installed while they were off.

Update at 300 Miles, with Dyno numbers

This link is a photo of my dyno run.

97 TQ and 79 HP.

Again, this is with stock 09 mufflers and headers, and the tiny little SE air cleaner, and a dealer download into a stock ECM.

49 State Street Legal 103 inch kit, with SE255 cams.

I'm happy for now.

But it has an annoying dip in torque right at 3000 rpm. That equals 80MPH in 6th, perhaps it will result in 60MPG?

What does the fuel line look like?

It's hard to compare to mine since the exhaust is nothing a like, but that tq dip usually does not happen with those cams. I would think the tune and not the pipes since it's lower on the RPM scale.

We didn't snif it, just got the power numbers.

Next time. I'm thinking about the HD Race Tuner or whatever it's called. $350 at Zanotti's. I had a T-Max on my 07.

Stage II vs Pro Stage II

As for the Screaming Eagle Pro stage II kit (29893-07a) is there a difference in the motor parts from the regular stage II kit that comes with the air cleaner and exhaust? I want to add a stage II kit but i want to add aftermarket exhaust and a k&n heavy breather so I don't need the exhaust and air cleaner from the regular stage II kit. Do you know if all parts are the same except not having the extra parts in the pro kit?

No, I don't know exactly. I hate to tell you to go find a SEcatelog, but it will be in there. There is a downloadable PDF of the screamin eagle catalog somewhere.

Like I said, I hate telling someone to look it up themselves:
